Work & Mother Staff Picks: A Gift Inspiration Guide

We polled our team here at Work & Mother about the best new parent gifts they ever got, just in time for the Holidays. This is not an affiliate link gift guide, it’s simply a list of our favorites!

FOR PARENTS

Something You Want…

  • A Spa Certificate: I so appreciated being remembered with something just for me.  Everyone is so focused on baby that mom is often forgotten.  A spa treatment was so perfect — I felt special and it was something I could look forward to once baby was old enough for me to leave for a few hours and venture out on my own.  — Jules
  • Fresh Cut Flowers: Even when my house is a mess, there’s something about having fresh flowers that makes everything ok.  Whether its a single arrangement or a subscription, there are florists for any taste or aesthetic. Vogue did a great review of several subscription options here. And of course there is the widely accessible 1800Flowers. — Sarah
  • A Bottle of Champagne: This is a great gift.  Popping that bottle and sharing it with my family was so special.  The perfect opportunity to celebrate this new little love of ours! — Jules

Something You Need…

  • Personal Post-Partum Care: We don’t often talk about all the specific ways new moms need care and support. This New Mama Bundle is just perfect. Everything in it is helpful but also feels like a treat! — Alexis
  • Cleaning Service: Especially after a c-section, having a clean home helped me feel able to relax any moment I possibly could (with a new baby!) It took the pressure off my partner to help clean so that he could help me with other tasks during the day and night and it was just incredibly helpful! — Lillie
  • Meal Delivery: Having someone set up and steward a meal train calendar made such an impact in those early days. Meal train platforms like Give InKind, allow you to specify preferences and days. This was a true game changer.  — Abbey

Something to Wear…

  • A Giant Wrap: A big, stylish cashmere wrap is both cozy and fashionable. I have used mine as a wrap, a scarf, a top, a travel blanket and as an extra layer on the stroller for winter walks. Also White & Warren is a mom run small business that I love supporting. — Sarah

Something to Read…

  • Audible and Libby: Everybody has different taste in reading material, so for this section we agreed that digital solutions are the way to go. We found the parents on staff were divided into two camps.  One group cannot live without Audible which allows them to listen to audio books (and podcasts!) while multitasking.  The other group swears by Libby the free library reading app– which allows you to take out digital books from the national library network. — Everyone

FOR BABIES

Something You Want…

  • A Beautiful Baby Blanket: An Embroidered Baby Blanket like this one from Baby Braithewaite is my go to gift for new parents. Its practical and personalized. Who doesn’t love a baby monogram!? — Leslie

Something You Need…

  • A Hybrid Stroller/Car Seat: A Stroller/Car Seat combo makes life SO much easier. It takes the hassle out of getting in and out of the car and running around town with a newborn.  — Emily
  • A No-Fuss Baby Wrap or Carrier: My first born needed a lot of skin to skin. Beautiful but oh so very exhausting. I tried purchasing multiple wraps and slings before my cousin turned me on to the Boppy Carrier. It’s made out of fabric similar to athleisure wear and it’s super comfortable, lightweight and breathable. I wore my child A LOT and this product SAVED me. It’s still one of my favorite things to give to new moms.  — Abbey

Something to Wear…

  • No-Fuss Onesies: In the middle of the night, the last thing you want to deal with are buttons or snaps. These onesies from MagneticMe are super soft and make changing must faster thanks to the power of… magnets! Think breakaway pants but appropriate for a newborn, and much cuter 🙂 — Sarah

Something to Read…

  • Board Books: Everyone agreed on this one. It’s never too early to start reading to your baby! Happily there is no shortage of great books for little ones. Support a local bookstore if you can. Here is a great list of baby books from Happiest Baby to get you started. — Everyone
